Back-to-School Edition ✏️ The Lesson in Self-Love

Hello to My Don’t Despair Community,

As summer fades and back-to-school season begins, I’ve been reflecting on this: every new season is a classroom. Whether or not you have children at home, this transition reminds us that life is always teaching.

And one of the most important lessons we can “send ourselves back to school” for is this:

👉 When you learn to love yourself, you teach others how to love themselves.

This is what creates a foundation of safety, steadiness, and authenticity, not just for us, but for those around us. Without self-love, we’re more likely to tolerate what isn’t healthy. But with it, we (and our children, partners, friends, or coworkers) begin to discern what truly serves us.

Self-love is the unwavering respect that leads you to choose only what aligns with your worth. It’s what allows you to live, moment by moment, from your Adult Chair®.

You want BIG love? It starts by loving yourself BIG.

Here are a few simple self-love choices to practice this season:
✨ Speak kindly to yourself.
✨ Rest when you’re tired.
✨ Say no to what doesn’t serve you.
✨ Stop shrinking or masking yourself to fit in.
✨ Get curious about new practices (like meditation, journaling, or breathwork).
✨ Remember: you belong simply because you were born.

Scripture reminds us,

“Love thy neighbor as thyself.” It’s assumed that love begins within. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

So, in this Back-to-School season, let’s equip ourselves and our loved ones with the true “school supply” that lasts a lifetime: self-love as medicine. It strengthens identity, restores boundaries, and gives the courage to show up authentically in every classroom of life.

📓 Homework:
Repeat daily alone or with your family:
“I stay true to myself even if that means disappointing another.”

And if you’re ready for a sacred space to practice and anchor this lesson for yourself or your family, you can reserve your space here:
